Jam City wanted to add a high profile event designed to boost daily engagement and improve monetization of a valued franchise.
We began by helping the team clarify their goals and pillars for the event. We helped align the team by codifying these goals in wireframes so viewers were reminded of targets and priorities.
We put goals on the critical path in wireframes so all viewers are in alignment.
We consider the entire core loop when designing potential solutions. Event comprehension was a key goal for this feature; prior user research had demonstrated limited user awareness and understanding of events.
Previous events with poor comprehension relied mostly on the Event Info Panel to teach users, which users have to exit the core loop to opt-in and investigate.
We realized Pre-Level and Post-Level Screens were our key opportunities to put vital event feedback on the critical path.
Pre-level Screen
Post-Level Win Screen
We found the right moments to put key feedback on the critical path so users would know what was at stake and how they were progressing.
We worked highly iteratively with the team as mechanics of the event were solidified.

We emphasized the Daily Puzzle and its rewards to keep players coming back with the $10,000 prize as motivating footnote.

In the event info panel we boiled down the entire concept, and visualized it as a simple 3-step process to make it intuitive. We also amped up the $10,000 prize to make the stakes clear and exciting
Our Art team worked with Jam City to define the “all gold” aesthetic for the event. The narrative for the event informed everything from the design of the letter backs to the core UI for the event.
The Golden City was core to the narrative for this event, so we incorporated the Golden City Temple iconography on both Golden Tickets and letter backs.
All of our highly interactive prototypes include “dev notes” and an implementation guide to make development a breeze.
Dev notes include comments on logic, functionality or animation to make design specs clear for developers.
Part of our deliverables include an art “implementation guide” with assets linked to final mock ups of screens.
The event went live in December 2020. Jam City was extremely pleased and noted the event outperformed expectations.
